Join classically trained Jazz pianist Yayoi Ikawa for a live performance at Untitled Basement on Fri, Aug 25 from 19:00

Ikalafeng will be accompanied by Jimmy Mgwandi on the double bass and Sphelelo Mazibuko on drums. Before the performance there will be a conversation between Ikawa and Thandi Ntuli with Brenda Sisane.

Dynamic yet lyrical imagination… whether on her leader projects, as a side musician, at a Sunday service in African American church, Yayoi always speaks to the soul directly through her music with a huge range of emotions. Yayoi’s source of imagination comes from living every day to the full each day. Yayoi is energetic, passionate for creativity, curious to collaborate with fellow musicians and people from other fields that involve her mission, and most of all loves her musical family. Known as Yayoi Ikawa (Jazz pianist, composer, arranger, bandleader, educator) performs with long-time collaborator South African bassist Jimmy Mngwandi and Sphelelo Mazibuko at Vavasati this year.
